I have a 1995 honda civic, and it needs a paint job, pretty bad.

However that said, there are a few things that may help reduce the price some, if your budget is lower, for example, most door openings and the hood and trunk openings the paint is usually pretty good, because the sun does not get there, The suns rays are really hard on a paint job, I would start asking around, on a small car with a decent paint if you can find somebody local who may have a smaller shop, with low overhead, you may find some old guy, it may take a few weeks to get your car back, because in reality, a paint job is 90 percent prep work, and 10 percent painting, but the prep work is critical. Often times those shops like maaco or earl scheib may discount the job, but they will discount the prep work, use a cheap crappy paint, and a year or 18 months the car is ugly er than it was before.

Patience, and doing some advance research, (I have gone down to a shop, and spent a hour or more at different times of the week, and looked at the cars coming out of the paint booth on a shop I was interested in, a shop needs to be clean and organized, because when it is organized and clean, no one is searching all over through the crap to find what they need. a small shop it takes longer, but its cheaper because there is not 20 guys on a payroll, but it takes longer. another thing, is how long do you plan to keep your car? If you are going to sell it in a year, then wait and paint it just before you get ready to sell, and this is why, Once you paint a car nice, it takes effort to keep it that way, I swear, every time I painted one of my cars, it was like bad luck would come out of nowhere, I would park out in the boondocks of some big store where no cars were, only to come out and find a pile of cars all around it, and those close calls with them little old ladies who signal right, and turn left, happen like five times a day, instead of once a month, really weird coincidences it seems.
