Is Mitsubishi competitive enough to beat the ever reliable Honda and Toyota?

Honda and Toyota always come at the top of the Consumers' and Editor's Most Wanted list. I think Mitsubishi is just underrated. I need to know if there are lots of people out there who agree with me.Is Mitsubishi competitive enough to beat the ever reliable Honda and Toyota?ok lets put some of the misinformation to rest. Mitsubishi Motors owns the largest bank in the world, they built their first vehicle in 1917 way before Honda and Toyota were even thought of. many of the safety innovations in Honda's and Toyota's were actually invented by Mitsubishi. Traction Control was first built by Mitsubishi, the air bag was developed by Mitsubishi, the anti lock brake, the R.I.S.E Chassis. Mitsubishi is actually the official auto manufacturer of the Japanese government, the planes that decimated pearl harbor were built by Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi has won more world rally championships than any other car company and has won the Dakar Rally a total of 11 times at one point they won 9 in a row. world wide Mitsubishi is one of the most popular vehicles on earth. the amazing toyota has had more recalls in the last three years than they have sold cars. the level of engineering that goes into a mitsubishi is far superior to anything else out there. the warranty is a 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain, 5 year 60,000 mile bumper to bumper. which can be extended to a 10 100,000 bumper to bumper. car and driver consumer digest rates them very very high every year, if you check edmunds.com actual buyers of the cars rate them very very high. the engine performance and handling cues are unlike anything you will ever experience. they are not kidding when they say driven to thrill. and they are in no financial danger what soever. unless you ask other car manufacturers who tend to be afraid of what mits brings to table in terms of driving enjoyment and vehicle features.Is Mitsubishi competitive enough to beat the ever reliable Honda and Toyota?
history is fine, but the fact remains that AUTOMOBILES built by Mitsubishi STILL are not nearly as reliable as Toyotas and Hondas.

Those 100000 mile warranties are a sign of desperation, and may well put them out of business.

IN THE CURRENT SITUATION MITSSUBISHI IS IN THER EIS NO WAY THEY CAN COMPETE.THIS HONDA AND TOYOTA REALLY GOT THEIR MARBLES IN THE BUCKET SO TO SPEAK.MITSUBISHI ONLY SOLD LESS THAN 10K CARS LAST YEAR AND STILL FALLING AS WE SPEAK.THEY NEED TO GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR ASSES.TO GET BACK IN THE RACE.THEY CAN BUILD QUALITY CARS IF THEY WANT TO.I CURRENTLY OWN 2 MITSUBISHI AND A TOYOTA TRUCK.I HAVE A 95 MONTERO WHICH IS BUILT LIKE A TANK BUY NO COMPARISON TO A LANDCRUISER.CAN GET ME OUT OF TIGHT SITUATION ALSO MY WIFE GOT A 99 GALANT GTZ W/ OVER 100K AND STILL GOING,HAVING SOME ISSUES W/THE TRANS. If anything Mitsu is overrated. Their sales dont compare with Honda and Toyota, and their build quality is sub par at best. The eclipses had issues with their window seal melting in the heat. Lancers brake pads last maybe 15k miles. And their reliablilty is not even close. No, They are not being overlooked, they are just poor cars.

Mitsubishi has a very tough road. They aren't in the same financial situation as the other two and don't seem to be able to put out a lineup of cars that inspire people. Part of it might be their dealer group. Most Honda and Toyota dealers have nice building, professional staff, clean, good service area while most Mitsubishi dealers seem to be one step above used car dealers.
I would say that they were competitive in the sales area, but as far as comfort safety and reliability, go with a Toyota.

I own a 2000 montero sport with 94000 miles on it. It has been the best most rugged car that I have ever owned. I live in central Illinois so it gets tested every winter. I will be dissappointed if I dont get 300000 miles out of it. Just keep up on maintainance and a Mits will go for as long as you want it to.
I have a mitsubishi powered car, and I have had good luck with it in the 5 years that I have had it...however, mitsubishi has been having SEVERE financial issues over the past few years, so they are already at a disadvantage against honda and especially toyota.
