I have already removed all visible "Honda" and "Goldwing" badges and labels on my GL 1500, and placed "Harley-Davidson" badges and stickers on my bike. I know I won't fool a real biker, but I just want to impress ordinary people and not be embarrassed about driving a Goldwing. What else do you recommend? How can I beat the Honda Goldwing stigma?Save the money you spend on stickers, don't send any more money to Japan, buy a real "motorcycle", not a "bike" and get the feel of something worthwhile between your legs. Anyone who thinks HD's are useless has never had anything powerfull close to their crotch. How can I beat the Honda Goldwing stigma?
All the stickers and badges will not hide the fact you are riding one of the all great touring machines of all times.
Why try to hide that fact. If what you are saying is true, you are missing the point of motorcycle riding.
It's not what you ride, it is that you ride.
That was taught to me a long time ago and is still true today.
Now the REAL question is if you even own a motorcycle, let alone a GL1500 honda Goldwing.
I suspect you are just another poser trying to stir up the whole useless debate of what constitutes a "real biker".
A real biker is a person that rides a motorcycle.
Simple really, wouldn't you agree.
BTW, Harley stickers on a Honda Goldwing will fool no one. Harleys are too well know to be confused with anything else. That is part of the appeal of Harley ownership. How can I beat the Honda Goldwing stigma? Why would you be embarrassed to ride one one of the most revered and sophisticated bikes ever built. A modern opposed liquid cooled flat six, (think Porsche 911), vs a design first drawn up before WW1. Be proud of who you are and what you ride. If you want a Harley, buy one. If you want a Honda, buy one, if you are poor, admit so. But do not ever pretend you are something, or someone, that you are not. The REAL BIKERS are not so easily fooled by the posers such as you.
Why would you be embarrassed to ride a Gold Wing? they are more reliable, better riding, better handling, have way more power than a lousy Harley.
The only real problem with Gold Wings is that they have poorly designed charging systems and as such the rotor stator assembly has a bad habit of dropping dead on them at about the 30,000 mile mark. Once replaced with an aftermarket unit they are pretty much good to go for 200000 miles or more. Just try to get ANY Harley to do that.
Oh and by the way, there is a ton of aftermarket stuff available for personalizing your wing, if you so desire. Just ride it down to The Honda Hoot here in Tenn. 3rd week in June to see what I meanHow can I beat the Honda Goldwing stigma? You know what is going to happen.. you meet the wrong Harley bike club/gang they spot that. You not going to like what they do. If you look at the biker and he has a 1% patch .. run .. forest run.. your dissing harley by what your doing .Some people don't like that. Some clubs will burn you down for that ..I have been dealing with bike owners for almost 25 years . Some will look as what your doing is very disrespectful. no automobile owners are as proud of what they drive. There some really hardcore harley bike owners out there. Just be care full where you ride. Just be proud you have nice bike . Why are you trying to impress any one . Anyone that would be worth impressing will know that is a gold wing 200 yards off. .. but nice try . enjoy what you do while your doing it .. it could come to a end at any moment. How can I beat the Honda Goldwing stigma?
You should be embarrassed about riding a re-badged bike. The Goldwing is THE finest touring bike available. Nothing else even comes close.
I'm all for cleaning up looks and de-badging. I've done it to every bike and car I've owned. I've never slapped a Ford emblem on a Lexus. That's just retarded.
You know what? Just give me your keys. You don't belong on the road.
'Goldwing Stigma"??
Just ignore the idiots.
I met a "Wing" at the top of the Cumberland pass in the rockies.
( 20 Mi. of winding gravel at the time, up to 10,000' ), and he was
towing a trailer, and still having fun. If the bike can do that, then
those knocking it are just full of sh*t.How can I beat the Honda Goldwing stigma?
Sounds like an identity crises for your bike and you. Dude, Honda Goldwing is like driving a high priced luxury car on 2 wheels, there's no shame there. Chill man chill. A Goldwing is an impressive bike on its own. Maybe you are just running with the wrong crowd. You want to impress them just tell them how much that puppy cost.
C'mon now you're not for real - no one is that stupid! Spend a hefty amount on a Goldwing and do that? Nah, doesn't compute with me. Stop sniffing glue, or whatever is giving you these sick dillusions.I would have to say you sound like you haven't got a bike - let alone any f@#$king idea about one.
install the round air cleaner on the right side of the engine. Or if you can't do that I know they make horns that look like the harley air cleaners and put that ner the right side of the motor inbetween the cylinders. I forget if the goldwing has a v type motor or an inline motor, but I'm guessing it's the v
Ride what you have and enjoy it for what it is. Nothing wrong with a Gold Wing be it an old one or a new one. Wings rank as one of the best rides ever made. I have a BMW K1200LT, a Suzuki DL1000, and a 89 Wing with sidecar. Love them all and enjoy them all. Just ride and stop worrying about what others think.
WOW I did the same thing only opposite!
I covered my Harley in Honda stickers and went as far a shoving stuff up the tailpipe to quiet it down.. It still leaks oil and is still the original vibrator. But we can all afford the Goldwing luxury and settle for 4th best!
You may be stuck with the stickers, but they do need to come off. Nothing wrong with a Honda. Nothing wrong with anything with 2 wheels and a motor. Be happy with what you ride, whatever it is. Just don't be trying to tell people you have a Harley Goldwing.
Wow, really?!?
I get a lot of comments about my GL1800. I never hear anything bad.
I can tell you that if you ride it like a sportbike, you'll wear out the footpegs real quick, but they're only like $12.00 on bikebandit.com. Maybe that has something to do with why nobody gives me any crap about it?
Are you insane?
Please don't pretend to be something you're not.
Never feel ashamed about the bike you ride!
By the way, we can ALL tell what kind of bike you have, no matter how you try to hide it.
Why would you be embarassed with a wing!? One of the finest bikes ever made. I have a shadow at the moment but if ever in my life I can afford a wing I'd really like one.
What stigma are you talking about? Wings get huge respect where I'm from.
First get rid of the matching his and hers Hondaline clothing and helmets because they make you and your passenger look like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Other than that, just accept the fact that you have a heavy cross to bear.
My bet is you don't have the money, experience or ever even ridden a Wing. You are just another idiot that has too much time on your one hand, (the other hand will be growing hair.) I also agree with maddog. What stigma?
Why would you be embarrassed about riding a Goldwing. It is the best touring bike ever made. It does not matter what you ride as long as you are riding. Be happy and enjoy it.
The Goldwing stigma...you mean that old guys like gold wings? Err, isn't the Harley stigma a whole lot more embarrassing? Posers, Rubs, and white trash?
Be a real man and get a real Harley. And don't be surprised if the real
men kick the s*** of you and your phony bike.
i ride a harley, would'nt change that for the world, what i'd like to know is ....what stigma ?
Whats to be embarrassed about. Gold wing has set the standard for everyone else to keep up
stop trying to be a fake - everyone knows - and putting H-D badges on a Honda just shows that you are lacking.
Just be happy with what you got ! I think you are
not happy in life If you want to change your ride O/K get out and ride and enjoy
Sell it and buy a "Harley-Davidson.
a dork is a dork, no matter how many HD stickers you put on your japcrap.
Get a Harley. You don't deserve a Wing.
hey im a chopper nut,but the goldwing is a DAMB GOOD machine! mile after mile of problem free riding. Not my style of sled but ya cant knock em!
I'd have to say that you effed up a perfectly good Goldwing.
How about, "Grow up and face reality"?
