My Honda currently has 212,000 miles on it. When can I expect to get problems for the clutch and when to replace it?When to replace the clutch on a Honda Civic?Wow! IMHO, 212k miles is a lot. If the clutch has not been replaced so far, hold this for a museum piece. Now, I've owned 2 Hondas and they were both problem free for a long long time.
My experience with clutches is this...
1. If it is jerky when you engage it in first gear, then you have 'hot spots' on the flywheel or pressure plate. Time to replace it, but you can live with it.
2. If it slips after being engaged, then see if there is any adjustment else replace it.
3. If you press in the clutch and it squeals when the engine is cold, the pilot bearing/bushing is likely worn out. Time to replace it.
I would expect issues anytime after 100k miles but my knowledge is dated on that. Ifit lasted this long, someone is a really good manual driver!
My experience with clutches is from the 70s/80s and things may have improved since then. When to replace the clutch on a Honda Civic? If you drive the hills of San Francisco, the clutch wouldn't have lasted that long. If you drive on the level and a lot of highway miles, the clutch might last a lot longer. There's no guessing. If you absolutely need to know, the transmission will have to comeout and the clutch removed and measured-p but if you do all that you should go ahead and put in a new clutch anyway.
