How to turn a Honda Goldwing into a Cafe cruiser?
I have a 1983 Honda Goldwing with the fairings and saddle bags. I want to strip it down, remove the fairings and saddle bags and make it look more like a cafe cruiser. When I pull the fairing off will I have to get any extra parts or make any modifications so that the front will look half way decent? What other mods are usually made when converting the goldwing into a cafe cruiser? How to turn a Honda Goldwing into a Cafe cruiser? There was / is a guy in Detroit that would bring really cool gold wing cafe conversions to the State Fairground swap meets. There is a site "naked goldwing.com check out their bike of the month pics if you want some ideas. Or do a google search of Honda goldwing cafe racers and check the image pages. There is stuff that ranges from the ridiculous to the incredible.
Good luck with your projectHow to turn a Honda Goldwing into a Cafe cruiser? The idea of a cafe racer is to strip off everything that's not necessary to make the bike as fast and as light weight as possible while remaining street legal. Better shocks and suspension help make it handle better. Trim or remove the fenders and get rid of anything else that's not required for lighter weight. See if you can find a smaller gas tank and fiberglass seat pan. Maybe a little clip-on windshield and smaller handle bars... If you want to go fast, then you need to make sure you can stop as well. Better brakes are a good idea.
If your bags and fairing are still in good condition, you could probably sell them on ebay or some other auction site. How to turn a Honda Goldwing into a Cafe cruiser? You will have to figure out how to mount the headlight and turn-signals. Be prepared for lots of ugly stuff hidden by the fairing! The Gold Wing will never look much like a cafe racer, though: Cafe racers never have anything but chain final drive, and the flat-four motor will look totally wrong. You should really have spoked wheels, too, which the mid-to-late-seventies Gold Wings had. You can't really replace the "fuel tank", since it isn't really a fuel tank, and houses the electrics.

Why do you think Honda and Toyota alway rank at the top of the list for who makes the best quality vehicles?
These two types of automobiles always seem to rank higher than Ford and GM. Why do you think Toyota and Honda always seem to be at the top of the list? Why are there not more votes for BMW or Mercedes? Why do you think Honda and Toyota alway rank at the top of the list for who makes the best quality vehicles?BMW and Mercedes have really expensive parts, probably more expensive then they need to be. Alot of what your paying for is their name brand thus with Honda and Toyota you could get the same part for less and their really reliable. American cars just suck because they break so easily and practically are designed to fail. Why do you think Honda and Toyota alway rank at the top of the list for who makes the best quality vehicles?
Well because Hondas and Toyotas are cheaper and sell more, plus they save gas, are reliable, and the japanese put thought to making them, the BMW and Mercedez are luxury cars and more expensive, maybe just as reliable or more as Honda and Toyota, but more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$Why do you think Honda and Toyota alway rank at the top of the list for who makes the best quality vehicles?Actual customer data backs that up. Honda and Toyota have fewer reported problems than any other manufacturer. Mercedes is actually really bad in that regard. It ranks at or near the very bottom in terms of reliability.
If you have a subscription to Consumer Reports you can go and look for yourself on thier website. Ford is actually not that bad. It's best of the US car makers.
This isn't really an opinion matter. It's just facts about which cars break down more.
Now if you want to talk about which cars are "cooler" or better looking or more fun to drive... thats opinion and you will find people that say all sorts of things. Why do you think Honda and Toyota alway rank at the top of the list for who makes the best quality vehicles?
Generally when people rank vehicles by quality, they are basing it on how reliable the car is in its prime. Honda and Toyotas are reliable but they don't last long. You can't put as many miles on a honda or toyota as you can a Saab or Volvo for example.
Honda and Toyota dont deserve to be ranked as high as they are, IMO. I witnessed an accident recently where a toyota ran into the back of a ford. The toyota was totalled and the ford drove away, with nothing more than a few scratches on the bumper. Why do you think Honda and Toyota alway rank at the top of the list for who makes the best quality vehicles?Actually the latest quality rankings have Toyota way down towards the bottom on that list with Ford %26amp; GM up near the top. Honda is still up near the top, but the gap has grown smaller. This isn't the 1980's anymore.

How do I replace or repair keys for a 2004 Honda Accord?
I bought a used 2004 honda accord, and discovered one of the keys I received does not work (either the remote open/close or manually). I really want at least one spare key, if not more, for my husband and an "emergency" key. What are my solutions, for repair or replacement, because I hear getting a new key from the dealership is rather expensive. How do I replace or repair keys for a 2004 Honda Accord? Some key are code in a way they can not made out side the dealership. You will need the ID of the vehicle. From this they can make key's up. It cost a bit for those type keys.
Howener, if you have a single sided key it can be copy at any place that has the blank for it.
The other area is a locksmith. They cost a lot.

What car should i get a Toyota 4runner or a Honda Civic?
I have to choose between these two cars and i dont know which, the toyota 4 runner is a 1997, 4 cylinders and has 4 doors,. The honda civic is a 1999, 4 cylinder, and has 4 doors . Price isnt a factor here. What car should i get a Toyota 4runner or a Honda Civic?well one is a truck the other is a car.
as trucks go the 4Runner does have very good handling and manners compared to most trrucks but it will get lower mpg than a Civic.
I just drove home in a heavy rain storm and several cars were stalled on the side of the road. (high water)
I drove my truck very slowly thru the water and arrived home without suffering the same fate.
trucks do have some advantages.
one of the cool things about 4Runners is the rear glass can be lowered and raised. If you open the windows it creates a nice flow of air. a unique feature not found on most trucks.
you can find Nissian Pathfinders %26amp; Xterras for a few thousand dollars less than a 4Runner.
the Xterra is capable off road, if you ever need that but it does suffer from some truck like handling and chop over hwy bumps. What car should i get a Toyota 4runner or a Honda Civic?

i dint know what they looked like and i looked them up but the civic looks alot better!

How do I replace the stoplight switch in a 1987 Honda Civic?
I was just told that the cause of my brakelights not turning off was a bad brakelight switch. I picked-up a replacement for the switch, but I am clueless on how to replace it. I have found guides online, but none of them for my car. I have a 1988 Honda Civic with automatic transmission and the hatchback body type. Can anyone lend me a hand. Also, if it is possible, provide visuals. I'm not a "car" person, but I follow directions well, so with much details provided, I can replace it easily. What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?
I have a 94 Honda Civic CX Hatchback. I just put a new used motor in it (another stock motor from a 95) and Id just like to add a little umph to my little car. Any inexpensive ways to do this? Maybe air intake? And what brands should I look into? What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?Just go with some simple bolt on power.
A cold air intake (AEM), headers (DC Sports), and full exhaust (5Zigen, Apexi, HKS, Tanabe) will get your engine breathing better and free up a little more horsepower. Intake manifolds arent all that expensive and can make some difference. I really like my Skunk2 but I guess Edlebrock makes some good ones too.
AEM makes a great pulley set for damn near every Honda ever made. Remove your AC and power steering to relieve parasitic load of the engine. AEM makes adustable cam gears too, that are lighter than stock and can be tuned in the future to make more power. Since stock cam tuning is a little on the conservative side.
Upgrading your fuel system is an option too. AEM also makes an excellent fuel rail, fuel filter, and fuel pressure regulator for Hondas. Walbro makes the best fuel pumps out there in my opinion. If you bolt those on you can turn up the fuel pressure a little bit and feed the engine a little more fuel to make a bit more power.
Spark plugs (Bosch) and wires(MSD) are another inexpensive way to get a little more kick too. A new ignition coil(MSD) and ignition control box (MSD) are always options further down the road as well.
But if you dont care about the engine or you have plans in the future to get another then I would just spray the piss out of it with some nitrous(Zex or Nitrous Express) for some extra zip...for now. But if you plan on holding on to this engine...stay away from nitrous.
You could get an ECU reflash (Hondata) but if your lookin for just some more "umph" I would wait to do this until you start getting into the more extensive mods. What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?
most people get headers and intake and a muffler to add a lil extra hp on their cars. u should go with that.
get an intake for it.What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?the best thing to do is put it in a tree and buy a new car. What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?
A cold-air (not short-ram) intake would help. Look into brands like AEM, Injen, or K%26amp;N -- they are well worth it.
I don't know of any cheap way to do this, the only thing that you can do is open the hood, remove the radiator cap, put it on the ground, back up the Honda. Pull up to the cap with an American made car open the hood, install the Honda radiator cap on the American car, Now what's left of your Honda will have , not only more power, but a lot more PRIDE.What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?
lighten up your load - remove all unnecessary weight.
get a AEM cold air intake and some descent headers and exhuast for headers go for DC ether a 4-2-1 or 4-1 your choice and for exhuast go for HKS, GREEDY,etc if you put this in your ride you will be happy. you would spend about 1grand
cheap way not really...sell ur car get an EVO
intake exhaust spark plugs, spark wires and or lightin weight
hey i just did this to a 93 civic and i can tell you exactly what to do.... contact me on messenger radiohead5953@yahoo.com
You can contact your local K%26amp;N Filter dealer. Request for a OEM replacement filter as it just replaces the OEM paper filter, without having to re-install the whole tubing like those of a 'cone' shape filter.
Try the Borch 4 point spark plugs or Denso's Iradium plugs, they give better power.
If you have a bit more budget, you may consider changing the power chip. (check the link)
Good luck and have fun
Don't buy anything, sell the motor and buy an LS/Vtec. It really is the cheapest thing you can do. All that money you spend on the intake, headers, exhaust, so on and so forth will run you more than the swap itself. And you'll get loads of power out of this car, trust me. My friend has it done, nothing special on it and dust S2000's, tegs, Preludes, H22 CRX's. I've seen it. His car is slightly faster than my mazda and my mazda has alot of stuff done to it. So the LS/Vtec is the best way to go IMO.

What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?it all depends how much power your looking for, right now my car has intake headers exhaust, and its not much of a difference. save up for a swap. depending on the power that you are looking for opens up different paths on which to go by. look at the site below. but if your loooking for very little power change, check out AEM or Injen. short ram intakes and cold air don't really have a difference, both on my car the difference wasn't that noticable, next free up the contrictions on the exhaust, don't find any mockup brands that say greddy style or apexi style exhaust, go to Greddy or Apexi websites. consider also taking off some of the unnecessary pullys on the engine, if you don't use the air conditioning, take it out. another way is more expensive, and dependind what you want, you could build the internals of the engine and throwing boost at it, if you have anymore questions you can Email meget an intake for it.What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?the best thing to do is put it in a tree and buy a new car. What is a cheap way to increase power in my Honda?

We own a 92 Honda Accord- is it damaging to the transmission if you shift it manually?
My wife used to own a 96 Eclipse. She had a similar problem to what we are experiencing with the Honda. Her Eclipse would sometimes shut off while driving- my wife would shift it into neutral and turn the ignition key, and it would start back up again.
Is that safe to do? Doesn't shifting the transmission like that damage it in some way, or is it completely safe?We own a 92 Honda Accord- is it damaging to the transmission if you shift it manually? You shouldn't shift it manually unless your doing some hard driving. Keep it in 3 when going around the city, there's no point in putting it into overdrive (D4) unless you'll be at speeds above 60 for excessive time. If it keeps shifting to overdrive at road speeds it'll put too much work on the engine and since it won't have any torque it can't get out of it's own weight causing damage to the throwout bearings.
You need to get it looked at as well, a car just shutting off while driving is caused by another problem and something like that is usually a serious problem. If it stops either start the car up again as fast as you can or pull over, the oil isn't being pumped through like it should be and will starve the bearings of oil causing excessive wear.
IMO: Stop worrying about how you shift it and start worrying why the cut shut off on its own.We own a 92 Honda Accord- is it damaging to the transmission if you shift it manually?
It's okay to do that and it may be the least abusive way to restart the engine. The owner's manual says if the car has to be moved with the front wheels on the ground it should be started if possible, shifted into neutral and then the engine may be shut down. Her practice is about as close to doing that as you can get when driving. We own a 92 Honda Accord- is it damaging to the transmission if you shift it manually?92 Honda accords that have automatic transmissions are not manual shift mode automatics!! you will break the transmission no honda even the 09s do not have manual shift mode transmissions just put it in d and just drive the Honda transmission is not that great to start with plus a 92 is really really old so dont kill the car if you want a manual shift mode get Acura they have manual shift mode transmissions but not a 92 lolWe own a 92 Honda Accord- is it damaging to the transmission if you shift it manually?
the tranny is meant to be shifted like a manual, my buddy had a early 90's olds, he would shift from [1] to [2] [3] %26lt; if available to finally [d]. wasnt long he needed a new trans, another thing your wife needs to avoid i noticed this alot of women does, is when backing out they shift to drive before the car is completely stopped. We own a 92 Honda Accord- is it damaging to the transmission if you shift it manually? It probably won't hurt it. In the automatic preludes you can shift them manually they are designed to do that and they are economy cars. Built as cheaply as possible they are not heavy duty like a civic or accord. We own a 92 Honda Accord- is it damaging to the transmission if you shift it manually?
just don't ram it into gear from neutral with the gas pedal pressed to the floor and you'll be okay.

What year did Honda motors start making the Isuzu Rodeo for Isuzu?
The Rodeo has not always been made by Isuzu only. What year did the Honda Passport start carrying the Isuzu logo's. I am looking for a Rodeo that has the Honda motor in it. I recently lookked under the hood of a Rodeo and the motor was Isuzu. My ex-girlfriend had the edition that had a Honda motor under the hood. The Isuzu Oasis is a minivan produced as result of an agreement between Isuzu and Honda from 1996 to 1999. It was the only minivan produced by the company.
Under the agreement, Honda would purchase Isuzu Rodeo and Isuzu Trooper vehicles to be sold as the Honda Passport and Acura SLX, respectively, while Isuzu would purchase Honda Odyssey and Honda Civic vehicles to be sold as the Isuzu Oasis and Isuzu Gemini, respectively the Odyssey was a huge success when compared to the Oasis. Though the Oasis was essentially the same car with a lower sticker price and a better warranty, Honda's more prominent brand recognition propelled the Odyssey to greater sales. The Oasis was sold from the 1996 model year to the 1999 model year in North America. The Odyssey was redesigned for 1999, but Isuzu still sold the original body with minor changes all the way through 1999. What would make a Honda CBR1000 battery to constantly die?
I just bought a 1994 Honda CBR1000. As soon as I pulled into my driveway, it died. I bought a new battery and was able to ride 3 times and it did it again. I have been told that it could be the Stater (I know I misspelled it) or the Rectifier Regulator, again, please forgive my misspellings...Can anyone explain what makes these parts go bad? What would make a Honda CBR1000 battery to constantly die?I have a Honda ST1100, and I think it has a lot of the same electrical parts. I had a problem with batteries dying, and after the 2nd battery I figured out it was my voltage regulator. I got a new one and it solved the problem. It's kind of expensive for a little piece of black plastic. But it's the only problem I've had with the bike in 65,000 miles so far!
Put a voltmeter across the battery terminals while the bike is running. With the bike idling it should be just over 12 volts, 12 point something. When you rev up the engine to 3000 or so, you should see the voltage jump to 14 volts. If not, it's probably your voltage regulator. What would make a Honda CBR1000 battery to constantly die?
I have never had a stator go bad.
Even heavily overloaded ones.
With my bikes, it has always been the rectifier/regulator.
Sometimes a bad diode in the rectifier, usually the regulator is fried.
If your husband has a manual and a multimeter, the checks are easily done.
Never install a new battery without fully charging it first.
That's a bad habit that will stress even a healthy charging system. What would make a Honda CBR1000 battery to constantly die?The stator is like a cars alternator and produces an alternating voltage which is converted into DC current by the Rectifier or Voltage Regulator. What usually happens with the stator is the windings inside will short and take out the voltage regulator, and than your running on you battery alone. This rarely happens close to home!
If you have come to this point(as I did), replace the Stator, Regulator, and Battery, but since you just bought the battery just charge it back up when the other two components are replaced. You may wish to install a voltage gauge to keep an eye on the charging system as well.

A bike that old it could be several things, but my first thought is the stator. What would make a Honda CBR1000 battery to constantly die?the charging system isn't working. take it to a bike shop and have it checked.

Where can I find a quality engine to replace my Honda GX160 blower engine?
My old Honda engine gave up the ghost today on my tiller. I want to replace it ASAP. It is a GX 160 with a regular 3/4" crankshaft. My old Honda was a pull start, but I want to look into pricing an electric start too.
If anyone knows a good website I can look at to get prices I would be appreciative. My new engine does not HAVE to be a Honda.Where can I find a quality engine to replace my Honda GX160 blower engine? The best place I've found to replace my honda engine or my tecumseh engine on my tiller (without the extended camshaft) is www.yamakoyoequipment.com
I've done some research on the Yamakoyo engines and i've found their quality comparable to that of honda engines at a fraction of the honda's cost.

Raclette? Switzerland Help please!?
I went skiing to switzerland last week with the Girl guides and i have to do a meeting about it, so any ideas for a Swiss themed night are welcome too! There are about 30 of us, aged 11-16, all female. I want games and craft ideas, or any traditional Swiss things. Our meeting is 2hours long but i only have 1.5 hours to do my things. So I am going to make raclette at my next guide meeting.
I need to know how to make raclette for 30 people, they only need to be a taster size, so maybe a portion between 6? What sort of cheese do i use? I live in England so are there any cheeses here that i can use? It must be fast and easy to make because they will be making it themselves in about 30 mins, but i can cook potatoes etc. at home if needed.Raclette? Switzerland Help please!?
Original Raclette Recipe
This traditional and simple raclette recipe should be the first you try on your raclette grill.
For 4 Persons.
* 8 small/medium potatoes
* 700g Raclette Cheese
* 1 jar pickled gherkin cucumbers (cornichons)
* 4 small onions (or shallots)
* 24 slices salami or ham
* freshly ground pepper
Raclette ingredients Other optional ingredients:
leg ham, prosciutto (thin Italian ham), pepperoni(spiced salami), tomatoes, pineapple, capsicum, prawns, fresh or dried herbs, avocado, onions, marinated chicken/beef, mushrooms, celery, asparagus, olives, crusty bread, or salads.
Method
1. Brush potatoes under running water and place in microwave-proof bowl half filled with luke warm water and cook on high for 6 mins in their skins. Alternatively you can boil the potatoes on the stove top in a pot filled with water for approximately 18mins on high.
2. Remove the rind (outer surface) from the cheese. You will need a sharp knife to remove the rind. Once the rind is removed slice 2mm thick slices (thinner if preferred) from the block using a knife or wire cheese slicer. Place on a serving dish, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until required.
3. Arrange gherkins, onions and salami/ham on a platter and set aside until required.
4. When ready to serve, set table and place raclette grill in the centre of your table and placed cooked potatoes on top of raclette grill in metal bowl or saucepan with lid to keep warm and place gherkins, onions and cheese on table.
5. Turn raclette grill on to begin to heat up (takes only a minute or two). Each guest takes a slice of cheese, places it in their pan and slides it under the raclette grill to melt. It takes approximately 2 mins to melt to a creamy consistency and 3 mins for a more crispier top. In the meantime take a potato, place onto your plate and cut it into a few pieces and take out the pan from under the grill once it's reached it's preferred consistency and hold the pan onto its side to scrape the cheese out using your wooden spatula. Non- stick pans will allow the cheese to just slide off.
6. Season to taste with freshly ground pepper.
Hints
* The rind of raclette cheese may be hard to cut through with conventional cheese wire cutters. As you hack away at the rind with your sharp knife be careful to remove just a little of the outer surface of the cheese. It can be quite tricky. We didn't say that there wont be any work involved! The vegetable peeler is handy to remove the curved edge side of the cheese block.
* Accompanying ingredients (gherkins, onions, herbs, spices etc.) can also be heated under the grill together with the cheese at the same time.
* In Australia the most common potato variety is Sebago which comes brushed (unwashed) or washed (sometimes called "new") but why not try other potato varieties which are even tastier like :
-Kipfler : cigar shaped, yellow skin, meaty flesh.
-Nicola : oblong-long shaped, rich yellow skin, yellow flesh.
-Bintje : oblong - long shape, cream coloured skin, light yellow flesh
-Desire :round, pink skin, pale yellow flesh.
* Try baking potatoes wrapped in foil. Bake for 40 mins at 250掳C. For a more chewier skin bake without foil.

And, did you get accustomed to that Vancouver?
It seems to go upside down there, and your relationship status in Facebook too, with being married, single, engaged.
What's gonna come out of that.
This new home looks rather nice and comfy. Are you well off with those two people?
What I'm wondering about is if you're already getting pissed off with school or if it's different from earlier times :)

European Applicances in the US? 220v to 110v?
So my wife went to France recently and ended up buying a raclette machine. Now when we used it (in the US) I noticed it didn't get as hot as when we used them in France. My question is this, I know the european appliances take 220v and the US is 110v (-ish) is that why it didn't get any hotter and can I do something about it to make it work better?
Also it doesn't have an adjuster on the side to turn the heat up or down.
Thanks in advanceEuropean Applicances in the US? 220v to 110v?

Stuffed chicken breast ideas?
I am considering making stuffed chicken breasts for dinner tonight, with some linguine pasta. What combination of these ingredients sounds like the best stuffing, particularly as far as the cheese? I have:
Cheese: Goat, Morbier, Raclette
Mushrooms
Tomatoes
Spinich
All sorts of herbs and spices
Thanks!Stuffed chicken breast ideas?
I have actually made stuffed chicken breast with tomatoes, spinache and mozzarella cheese inside...so i would have to do a tomato spinach goat cheese combo..be sure to use your toothpicks aggressively on the openings of the chicken breast to keep the goodies inside.
If you have goat cheese, combine it in a blender with cream or milk and some fresh rosemary and lemon. Slice the chicken breast in half and then line the insides with prosciutto. Then stuff the chicken with the goat cheese mixture and bake in the oven until the chicken is cooked. Depending on what you like you can skin the chicken breasts. With the linguine pasta try a sort of lemon cream sauce to accent the lemon in the chicken. Good luck!Stuffed chicken breast ideas?
Mix Arbor Mist wine. .mixed berry with some lemon pepper liquid marinade together. ..I know it looks nasty...stuff the chicken with roasted red peppers after you marinate it stick a tooth pick in the chicken to keep the peppers in and grill it in a frying pan...best chicken you will ever eat....your welcome...
If you do bacon, this is THE best stuffed pork chop recipe we've ever found. A family favorite.

It needs to be a pretty firm cheese so it won't all melt out. All the ones you mentioned sound fine. I stuff mine with ricotta personally. It needs to be seasoned first, though, as it is rather plain.
I think the spinach would go good. Or mushrooms. You could add an easy cream sauce to go over it!

Want to try a Swiss dish?
Hey, I'm from Switzerland. Y'know... that tiny little country near France, Italy and Germany. It's a country famous for its chocolate and swatches. :)
One of my favorite Swiss-french dishes is melted raclette cheese. In french, the verb "racler" means to scrape. So raclette cheese is scraped off once it's melted. My family enjoys it with cornichon pickles.
I'm sure a lot of you have tried swiss (cheese) fondue, right? Well, branch out a little and try raclette.
Happy Holidays!Want to try a Swiss dish?
Huh. I wasn't aware that was a Swiss dish. I've eaten that for years. The first time I had that was at a state fair in SC.
It is nice to know where it came from.
Bright Blessings!
O.k I'll try it but how do you make it?Want to try a Swiss dish?
I've been to Switzerland. Nice country:) Interlaken, Jungfraujoch, Schilthorn.
Raclette is a wonderful dish like so many other Swiss specialties. But whenever i think of my stays in that perfect country, i always remember the killer-tasting pork bratwurst and frites, roestti - Swiss food i missed most. Bon appetite mon ami.Want to try a Swiss dish?
Sounds tasty ... I'll try it 2moro maybe.
Thanks much. I will give it a try.

What's the stinkiest cheese you've had?
I'm always looking for strong cheese!
Raclette is potent! What's the stinkiest cheese you've had?
Limburger is pretty strong, but the absolutely worst of the worst I have ever encountered was raclette that was too old. Apparently it must be eaten fairly fresh, is very hard to get because it comes from only a certain type of cow in a certain area of France a certain time of year. People there actually throw "racletter parties" with the cheese taking center stage. I used to be a cheese buyer and "expert" (ha-ha) for a specialty food store, and hated HATED dealing with the raclette. The made me order it though we almost never had anyone buy it and it always made me gag.
LIMBURGER
It is a strong German cheese, has a delicious a bit spicy taste; however, if you don't eat it in one sitting, make SURE you seal it in a zip lock bag, and then into a plastic container, otherwise, you will not be able to open your fridge without fainting....What's the stinkiest cheese you've had?
Hands down it has to be "Cave Cheese!!" Made in Wisconsin.
It seriously smells so BAD that you can't get it past your nose! LOL
I think it was aged in a cave for 7 years? and tasted like vomit and smelled...lol... like ROTTEN feet!! LOL...
My Dad brought some home and we all started gagging and spitting it out in napkins! LOL This is a real product, I'm not joking!
Well it was kinda stinky and sour, it was goat feta cheese from France. I think I will stick with the Greek feta. What's the stinkiest cheese you've had?

SDAAny good Raclette Grill Recipes ? hmmm ?
Here is a recipe book you can buy:
http://www.raclette.com.au/raclette_reci鈥?/a>
This is my favorite from in there:
Risotto Rice and Smoked Chicken
approx 21/2 cups vegetable stock
1 cup risotto Arborio rice
3 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1 clove of garlic,crushed
2 tablespoons butter
2 small zucchinis
3 mushrooms
2 small ready made smoked chicken breasts
freshly ground black pepper
1 cup Raclette cheese, coursely grated
1/4 cup Parmasan cheese, coursely grated
This recipe is made shortly before serving and served with freshly grilled cheese.
Wash zucchinis and wipe mushrooms and dice into small cubes. Slice smoked chicken into thin slices. On a medium heat add oil, onion and butter in a large fry pan and add garlic and the rice and fry for approx. 2 minutes until the rice has changed colour. Turn down the heat. Add just enough stock to cover the rice. Allow to gently simmer on a low heat. When the stock has almost evapourated add 1/2 cup of stock at a time and continue until all the stock is used. Add zucchinis and mushrooms midway through. Stirring continuingly, uncovered for approx. 20 mins.
After 20 mins check that the rice is cooked through. Bring rice, chicken and grated cheeses to the table and place a thin layer of risotto in a raclette pan and top with a slice of smoked chicken and grated cheese. Allow to grill untill cheese has melted. Top with freshly ground pepper.
If you are looking for more raclette recipes simply order our raclette book. It is filled with plenty of recipes and information all about raclette.

A very important economy question on demand and supply?
Raclette is a popular wintertime dish in Switzerland. It is essentially melted Raclette cheese over boiled new potatoes. If the price of this cheese decreased we would expect:
(A) an increase in demand for the cheese
(B) an increase in demand for new potatoes
(C) no effect on the demand for either of the Raclette ingredients, since this is a traditional dish and its consumption does not depend on the prices of the ingredients
(D) both A and BA very important economy question on demand and supply?
A. The question says nothing about how much of cheese consumption is for the above dish, it may only make up a very small % of the use of cheese in the country. Therefore we should assume the demand of complimentary items for the meal will not be affected by the changing demand for cheese.
Answer is therefore A.A very important economy question on demand and supply?
(B) an increase in demand for new potatoes
It would cause an increase in quantity demanded, but it would not shift the demand curve (unless we have information on what caused the price decrease). But, since it is a complementary good, it would increase the demand for new potatoes, even if by a very small amount.

Can you give me some types of indigenous Swiss foods?
I'm trying to make a list of authentic, indigenous Swiss foods, but many of their foods are adapted from surrounding countries (Germany, France, Austria, Italy). Besides raclette and fondue, what other foods are originated from Switzerland? Can you give me some types of indigenous Swiss foods?
Z眉rich Geschnetzeltes with R枚sti
Aelpler Maccaroni
Basler Mehlsuppe
B眉ndner Gerstensuppe
Capuns
Maluns
Pizokel
Meringues
Polenta
Safran Risotto
Ziger Chrapfe
Zuger Kirschtorte
These are some authentic Swiss dishes (including deserts). You can't eat them everywhere in Switzerland because some of them are quite regional.
En guete (means bon appetit in Swiss German)
Swiss Cheese? Can you give me some types of indigenous Swiss foods?
Toblerone? :)
Spaztle..It's like spaguettiCan you give me some types of indigenous Swiss foods?
According to the site I've listed there is no "official" Swiss cuisine. Most Swiss foods are adaptations of other surrounding countries. People a long time ago would have eaten what was available in their region probably prepared in a simple way just like all developing cultures.Fresh fish, mushrooms, nuts, game, wild herbs and eatable plants. With the eventual introduction of domesticated animals, the Swiss did become famous for their skill in producing cheese. Chocolate didn't become a Swiss specialty until the early 1800's. Chard is given the name Swiss, but was eaten in a lot of areas.
Here are a few native Swiss dishes besides raclette %26amp; fondue:
R枚sti (potato pancakes)
脛lpler Magrone (like macaroni and cheese)
K盲seschnitten (a toasted cheese dish)
Sp盲tzli and Kn枚pfli (boiled dough drizzled with butter)
Z眉ri Gschnetzlets (diced veal in a creamy mushroom sauce)
B眉ndnerfleisch (prime beef air-dried in an attic and sliced paper-thin)
It's definitely the case that there are Swiss dishes that are similar or adapted from neighboring countries. For example, in the French- and Italian-speaking parts of Switzerland the dishes do resemble dishes from France %26amp; Italy. The same goes for the German-speaking part of Switzerland, but I did find the above specialties that appear to be truly regional to German-speaking Switzerland -- especially R枚sti!!

Raclette? Has anyone got some good recipes? Especially sweet ones, thanks.?
Sweet raclette?.
Do you mean fondue?
Raclette actually means 'scrape'. You heat the cheese in front of an open fire and as it melts scrape it over boiled potatoes. You can add ground pepper and sweet or hot paprika to it and serve pickles as a side dish. You could, possibly try scraping the melted cheese over slices of pear, in an approximation of an accompaniment to a Basel cheese fondue.
These days you can get on table top grill. You put slices of raclette cheese in an individual pan, place it under the grill and when it melts you spread it over the potatoes etc. - see above.Raclette? Has anyone got some good recipes? Especially sweet ones, thanks.?

These days you can get on table top grill. You put slices of raclette cheese in an individual pan, place it under the grill and when it melts you spread it over the potatoes etc. - see above.Raclette? Has anyone got some good recipes? Especially sweet ones, thanks.?

The name Raclette also refers to the type of cheese, so this is what you should be looking for. I believe it is heated in a special oven, and the melted cheese is scraped out of the rind, and served with the potatoes. You'd have to get a lot of cheese to serve 30 people!

Raclette HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!?
i just bought a raclette thing ( the one where there is a grill on top and on bottom you melt the cheese) and i do not know any recipes all i know is that you can eat them with potatoes... HELPRaclette HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!?
I love raclette!
I don't make anything fancy though - the raclette tradition started out as just having a wheel of cheese next to the fire and as it melted you'd just scrape layers off onto your potatoes and have them with meats and veg. I just serve frankfurters and vegetables (beef tomato slices, portobello mushrooms, courgette/zucchini strips, bell pepper pieces) for people to grill, the cheese obviously (cut into roughly tray-sized pieces), hot boiled potatoes in a big dish, and cold meats and pickles on the side. Make sure you have salt, pepper and smoked paprika (hot and sweet) on the table for everyone to use. You can also serve a jug of omelette mixture - you can use the little cheese trays to make omelettes too with meat and veg added. And what with all that meat and cheese, a green salad often goes down well.
Everyone puts cheese (spiced or seasoned to their taste, and with bits of veg/meat added if they like) in the trays, meat and/or veg on the grill, and serves the cooked cheese over the potatoes and veg.
If you want to do something fancier you can pre-marinate veg and meat strips for people to put on the grill, but personally I don't like messing around with raw meat at the table. Doesn't hurt to marinate veg though if you wish, in oil and herbs, garlic/chilli oil or a lemon dressing for example.

Is "Les Armures" still in business in Geneva, Switzerland? And does it still make great fondue and raclette?
Oh yes, they are still there! Simply wonderful! Here is the dining link and it has the fondue's right there front and center!
Where can you buy raclette cheese? I'm based in Guildford, Surrey, UK?
You used to be able to buy it in Lidl.
What kinds of American food do people long for in other countries?
Kind of like how I always crave for doner kebabs, raclette, caprese salad and tabouleh from different countries. What do foreigners think about American cuisine? Any dishes that stand out? What kinds of American food do people long for in other countries?
In India people like food from McDonalds (Indianized version - no beef), KFC, Pizza Hut, Dominoes.
I have visited some of these places and liked them
my guilty pleaures that i loveeee from America are
oreos
ho hos
razzlers
those red tortilla chips (i cant remember the brand name)
taco bells vegetarian range :)What kinds of American food do people long for in other countries?
McDs for sure!
I am an American living in Venezuela and what I miss the most is Tex-Mex food...also little things like cheddar cheese, pimiento cheese and sweet pickle relish(the 2 latter items I have learned to make myself). What kinds of American food do people long for in other countries?
R U kidding me w/ some of these answers u are getting? I lived in Euro---think--what would 1 miss the most---THANKSGIVING DINNER! Hello to alot out there, Euros never celebrate that holiday! (gee, wonder why...) lol
Amazing how one would truly miss that being American. Not to mention ethnic traditions at Christmas, New Year's Easter, etc...
However, Euros LOVE our hamburgers, (I swear, that ranks way up there like #1)--except, still not the same, some countries use horsemeat or Lordie knows what! lol! Yeck! lol But ps here, they have like BG Quiks that are better than McDs...
PLUS---Euros LOVE our salades---as they are crisp %26amp; cold, not 'lukewarm %26amp; not crispy at all' as served there. They love all our cuisine---OH! meatloaf, stuffed peppers, etc..I could go on %26amp; on...btw, I have to star you for such a GREAT question!
YOU just ruled w/ 1 of the best cooking questions ever! And you deserve that star! Thank you immensely for asking!
It's not really cuisine, but every time I went to visit my friend in Germany (she worked here in the states for a summer as an au pair), she asked me to bring her cranberry juice cocktail because at the time they didn't have it there.
When I was in London 2 years ago, I have to say I missed pizza more than anything else.
I'm sorry, the Brits can't make a good pie to save their lives!
They are crazy for pizza in Morocco and the young people think McDonalds is good, but they sell a higher quality of sandwhich than what they sell in the US. They also love American chocolates and all types of chocolate bars.
Mainly all the unhealty fast food.
Milky way, Oreos,
The big mac (in europe they dont even deserved to be called big mac)
That about the salads its not so true, and they avoid all the heavy dressings, ranch etc,
As for me, a good hotdog and a burger.
lobsters and steaks ;)

Can any one give me some nice tips for raclette grill?
Yes, I sell them( Swissmar brand).
They're very EZ to use.
What problems are you having?
Grill you meat, sausage or veggies on the top.
The plates on the bottom are for the Raclette cheese( Use either Swiss or French and preferably "raw milk" if you can find( usually the French is automatically raw milk).
A few minutes before the top items are done, place a piece of cheese in each of the bottom plates and have it melt.
After it melts, slide the cheese into a plate and top it off with the veggies ( meats are usually served along side). Can any one give me some nice tips for raclette grill?
Read "Heidi" In that book, Heidi's grandfather used to boil potatoes and vegetables and then sit in front of the open fireplace with a large round of raclette cheese and hold the cut side of the cheese towards the fire and when it started to melt he would scrape the melting cheese off onto the platter full of potatoes and cooked veggies. What a wonderful picture in one's mind.
There are raclette grills available for restaurant and home. The restaurant ones hold the cheese on nails over a heating element and the server delivers the platters of cooked veg and it is up to the patron to scrape the melting cheese. The home ones look interesting. It is fun to do with a group of friends or family not unlike a cheese fondue.

What cheese can you use in place of raclette?
cant get raclette anywhere in this town so i need an altternativeWhat cheese can you use in place of raclette?
Gruyere, Vacherin, Tomme de Savoie, Comte, Reblochon, Fontina or Emmenthal ( at a push ) would all work in place of Raclette.
Basically you want an Alpine cheese which melts well. Vacherin, Tomme de Savoie and Reblochon would be my top choices.
Fontina D'Aosta, young Vacherin Fribourgeois, Beaufort, Gruy茅re, Appenzeller, Hoch YbrigWhat cheese can you use in place of raclette?
Any semi-firm, salted cheese made from cow's milk.
For those of you who haven't a clue, perhaps I'd better explain what it is.
Raclette is essentially melted cheese, served over boiled potatoes with lots of ground black pepper, accompanied by small pickled onions and gherkins.
The name comes from the French verb "racler", to scrape, because of the way the melted cheese is scraped off the block.
In the days when the cheese was held in front of an open fire and before the modern, poncey machine was invented,
Any semi-hard or firm cheese can be used, your local one is best.
English cheeses include Cheddar, Gloucester, Wensleydale even Caerphilly and blue Stilton or Derby. What cheese can you use in place of raclette?
For those who REALLY don't know, raclette cheese are slices of cheese that is mixed with other ingredients and cooked on a small cooker called a Raclette. They are very popular here in France, you can buy all sorts and flavours of raclette cheese but if you cant get the real mc coy then any processed cheese will do, in fact any cheese will do. Love mine cooked in those little trays with raclette cheese, bacon, blue cheese, chopped olives and sliced onions.

No not at all.
Racelettes are the little "pans" that you put your food in and put it into the machine - and there is usually a grill top on the top of the machine. These are in no way the same as BBQ's. They are electric grills, not run by propane, charcoal or gas and there are no flames.Raclette grill are they the same as a bbq?
I wouldn't class them as the same, but as similar.

Original Raclette Recipe
This traditional and simple raclette recipe should be the first you try on your raclette grill. If you like this recipe you will love our raclette recipe book. It is packed with plenty of recipes to enjoy with your raclette grill.
For 4 Persons.
* 8 small/medium potatoes
* 700g Raclette Cheese
* 1 jar pickled gherkin cucumbers (cornichons)
* 4 small onions (or shallots)
* 24 slices salami or ham
* freshly ground pepper
Bake for 40 mins at 250 掳C. For a more chewier skin bake without foil.

2 loaves of Turkish bread
3/4 cup pizza base sauce
fresh ground black pepper
8 slices pepperoni or salami
8 black olives
8 mushrooms
1 onion
1 green capsicum
small can pineapple pieces
fresh Mozzarella or Aussie Gold Swiss cheese
grated parmesan or Pecorino/Romano cheese
Slice vegetables and mozzarella cheese and place all topping ingredients in serving dishes. Slice bread into thin slices.
At the grill: place mozzarella slice onto the pan, sprinkle some grated Parmesan or Romano and add your favourite topping. Grill until cheese has melted. In the meantime place bread slice onto the top grill plate to toast on both sides. Take the bread off the grill and spread some pizza base sauce over it. Pour topping when ready over bread slice.
1/2 pound imported Swiss raclette cheese, cut into 16 slices approximately 1/8-inch thick, 5 inches long and 2-inches wide
4 freshly boiled small new potatoes, peeled and kept hot
4 to 8 small sour gherkins, preferably imported cornichons
4 to 8 pickled onions
Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Heat four 10-inch oven-proof dinner plates in the oven for 3 to 5 minutes. To ensure the success of the raclettes, the plates must be very hot.
When ready to serve, remove the plates from the oven. Working as quickly as possible, arrange four slices of cheese in the center of each plate, overlapping them slightly. The cheese should begin to sizzle once it comes into contact with the plate. At once, place the four plates on the floor of the oven. Let cheese melt in the oven for about 2 minutes, being careful not to let it brown. Remove from the oven, place a potato and one or two gherkins and pickled onions on the side of each plate and serve at once. Serve each plate on a service plate to prevent scorching the table.Does anyone have any RACLETTE recipes? (swiss cooking)?

Put a cheese slice on a raclette tray and melt it under the special grill, then pour it over a potato. This is a dish made at table; the guests take one potato and one slice of melted cheese at a time, so that they are always eating a dish which is piping hot
Traditional Raclette Machine
If you have a traditional raclette machine (with heat coils) prepare as directed by the manufacture. Heat the cheese and scrape onto warmed plates. Serve with accompaniments.
Raclette Grill
If you have raclette grill slice the cheese and place on the warmer trays. Heat according to manufacturer's instructions. Serve with accompaniments.
No Special Equipment?
Not a problem. Slice a 4oz portion of cheese for each serving. Remove the rind from the cheese and place on an ovenproof plate. Place plates in a preheated 450degree oven until melted and almost liquid. Serve with accompaniments.
Original Raclette Recipe
This traditional and simple raclette recipe should be the first you try on your raclette grill. If you like this recipe you will love our raclette recipe book. It is packed with plenty of recipes to enjoy with your raclette grill.
For 4 Persons.
* 8 small/medium potatoes
* 700g Raclette Cheese
* 1 jar pickled gherkin cucumbers (cornichons)
* 4 small onions (or shallots)
* 24 slices salami or ham
* freshly ground pepper

Can you eat Raclette cheese if pregnant?
Cheese high in water content are also thought to be particularly good hosts to some undesirable bacterial strains, such as Listeria, E.Coli and Salmonella. In pregnant women in particular, Listeria has been found to cause a variety of complications, from infection to premature birth or even miscarriage.
The cheeses that some doctors recommend pregnant women should avoid are those with high WATER content. Or said another way, avoid cheeses aged for less than 8 weeks (i.e., “soft” cheeses). If you’re not sure which cheeses fall into this category, ask your cheesemonger. Your safe bets are cheeses like Cheddar, Parmesan, or aged Alpine cheeses (Gruyere, Emmenthal, etc.).
Raclette is aged 2 months (8 weeks). If you're in doubt about it's safety while pregnant, check with your doctor. Can you eat Raclette cheese if pregnant?
Not sure if Raclette is a pasteurised cheese - if it is then go right ahead. Unpasteurised cheeses run the risk of listeria so are not a good idea whilst pregnant. Can you eat Raclette cheese if pregnant?

Hello choock. Raclette is the cooking system, not the cheese. Show some Emmentaler, or Gruyere cheese the fire, then scrape it off as it melts, onto toasted French style bread. That's it. Simple, ok? Good luck! Works well with Camembert too.
It's quite a speciality cheese so is not readily available in the supermarkets. You can buy it online, see link.
