What kind of service does my 07 Honda Rancher really need?

My 07 Honda Rancher 4x4 ES is due for its first scheduled service - after it first 100 miles. The dealer tells me it requires a full inspection of valves, brakes, skid plates, fuel system, and of course the oil change. This is expected to cost me $200-$250 for each machine!

Is the initial maintenance really this detailed or do I simply need an oil change?

Thanks in advance,

ErokWhat kind of service does my 07 Honda Rancher really need?Seems a little high but don't know hourly rate they charge.

It is most important service.

Engine oil and filter only isn't a service.

If its shaft drive there are also the front and rear diffs, all steering gear and a lot of hidden nuts and bolts to check. If its rear drum brakes wheels and hubs may have to come off

Ask for specific clearances on valves before and after adjustment (not a generic 'it was tight/loose now its at spec')

If its an honest dealers they wont think it odd and will already be doing explanations on repair orders

Dont know specifics of valve adjustment on Rancher but on Suzuki quads its a pain to get to the top of engine on some models ( remove front and rear racks, all plastics before you can do anything, about 3 hrs total just taking it apart and putting it together again)

Mac150, at first service a plug should have either been warranty, goodwill gesture from dealers or they are ripping you off, did they give specific reason plug needed changing? If there is a carb problem it should be covered by warranty and spark plug would be also covered.

It may have been a way to inflate bill? What kind of service does my 07 Honda Rancher really need?they just want to make everything is working. after that you wont need much maintenance. What kind of service does my 07 Honda Rancher really need?First service is the most important service. They inspect everything from the headlights to the taillights and everywhere in between.

My wife needed a new plug on her first service. I needed a valve adjustment. We spent $160 each quad.

***1crazypj- My valve job was under warranty as well as the plug for the honda. The service was before our discounted rates, also. Now we get a labor rate discount (standard is $60/ hour and we pay $45) and we also get a parts discount (cost plus 15%). We have reffered people to this store (they sold 28 bikes/ atv's from our refferals) and we buy everything through them, so they treat us right.

The plug was fouled becasue my wife leaves the choke on a little too long... well at least she used to. No matter how many times i tell her not to leave it on for so long, she just tells me that its HER bike not mine.
