Is a Honda Civic really the best car to learn how to drive a standard in?

I'm 17 years old, and I've been wanting to learn how to drive a manual transmission since I started driving (a little over a year).

And I heard that the best car to learn in is a Honda Civic.

Is that true?

If so, what model and year would be the best?

Or does it matter?

Thank you. 10 points to best answer! Is a Honda Civic really the best car to learn how to drive a standard in?lol don't listen to answer #2, I too have wanted to learn how to drive stick because my bf does. Um, I've tried in a 94 civic, it's just as hard as any other, just trying to get it out of first though, lol. Butttt, I think hondas are a great car! I just went from a ford to a honda accord, ittts so much better! %26amp; gooooood gas mileageIs a Honda Civic really the best car to learn how to drive a standard in?
truthfully, to me its fun learning as long as you dont have your father yelling at you for making misteaks. my friend drove his dads brand new lancer=clean shiftin. so it really depends on how good your clutch and tranny are, my friend has a 91 civic and it shifts so clean, that makes it easier

Is a Honda Civic really the best car to learn how to drive a standard in?old civics are actually, from my own personal experiance, realy good to learn on, because the accelerator is kind of "lurchy" and the engines are pretty low on power. going from my civic to my friend's gold made the golf seem super easy, and my other friend's newish accent is impossible to stall

Honestly it doesn't matter. I would learn on the car that you are going to buy. My first car was a automatic Toyota Corolla 2001, which I totaled, and then I got my 93 Honda Civic Coupe, manual. It hasn't given me any trouble since and it is the easiest car to work on, body and performance wise.

But it all depends on your preference, my answer would obviously be a little biased because I haven't owned any other car besides these 2 Japanese ones. So I say yes! Honda!

Cheers! Is a Honda Civic really the best car to learn how to drive a standard in?honda civic is not the best car for anything. That myth is the reason Ford and GM had to steal $25 billion last week in gov't loans. If people would get that old myth left over from the 80's out of their heads and give Ford %26amp; GM a chance, they might be ok today. My Ford=139,000 miles, no leaks, no trouble at all on original engine and transmission.

Not to be a jerk to the guy asking the question, but that "honda's better" line gets me mad, cause I know it just ain't true.Is a Honda Civic really the best car to learn how to drive a standard in?
The best car to learn in is the one you will be driving. For me that was a 1955 Chevy panel truck with a granny gear and no synchronized transmission. I have driven VW bugs, Ford vans, old cars, new cars, it doesn't matter what you learn on, learn on the car you will be driving.
The best car to learn in is one that already has some problems with the clutch since you will most likely wreck it anyways.

If you could learn to drive something like smarty learned on you could drive anything.
