How hard/long would it take to pull an engine from a 02 honda civic LX?

So I managed to roll my honda civic twice on friday, the car is totaled and the insurance won't be able to help me.



I'm just wondering if it would be worth my time to try and salvage the engine and tranny? Maybe try to sell them?

DIY mechanics often use a floor jack and wood to help support the engine and tranny. The engine of course will come out after the tranny has been removed so add the transmission time plus another 3-4 hours and they should both be out. It will require however a engine hoist to remove the motor, the tranny's don't weigh much but the engines really have some weight on them.



That of course is the normal time and assuming you knew what you were doing and had the tools. For a first timer it'll easily take at least 3x longer than an experienced mechanic. To be honest though for you, it doesn't sound like you have any of the skills/tools/equipment needed to do this.



I suggest you post your car on Ebay or Craigslist or wherever and let people know you want to sell your motor and tranny. Any buyers let them know that they will have to remove the motor/tranny themselves and bring their own tools. You'll have to lower the price for them since they'll have to do the labor themselves but that's the only way I can think of for you to sell them. Not trying to be rude with this but if you don't know how to do it you'll just cause more damage. The engine may be salvage-able but only to those who know how to salvage it. Listen to guy Number one and just sell it as a whole or let them pull the motor.
